Sky hd setup fee

Crucially, the final journey of this signal travels from your nearest telephone exchange via a fixed landline. Hence the need for a line for Sky Broadband. There is a new Fibre network rolling out in the UK which Sky are utilising to offer Ultrafast speeds mb. This is dependant on your location check availability via offers.

However, Sky continue to include a landline as part of this new faster service. If you are a Virgin Media customer, order your Sky Broadband service and then contact Virgin to inform them of your activation date.

This minimises downtime while giving your one month notice they require. Sky Talk call plans can be added to your Sky basket after you have selected your broadband service. External factors such as internet congestion and home wiring can affect speed.

If you want offers, call to reduce your package or cancel. Sky will tempt customers not on the top package, such as the half price Sports or movies I got offered by A nice man in Tech for three months as I only had a 6 mix pack. He also said Sky isn't a charity, which I had to laugh at!

Sky hope if i accepted I'd either keep the package at the new price or, I'd assume, forget to call, even for a little while. They're locked in for twelve months. Last edited: Oct 14, Congratulations Broadz, you truly are amazing. Sky don't need to take my word for it, they can check the invoice and receipt for the work. Miss Chief, I understand Sky's business model, and of course like any business it's sole purpose is to make money for it's shareholders etc etc I understand what you are saying too, and am not disagreeing with you.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and what i should have done was not bother having any of the work done prior to me getting HD. I should have just let Sky come out and do the full installation. Nevermind, i made what i thought was the correct choice at the time, and it's done now. Maybe i should just let Sky replace everything and sell all the pre installed kit. I still have some options open to me, i can still get a new box with free installation from the original Sky authorised installer that did the work originally.

As all his previous work is already covered under warranty, if it turns out to need replacing because it isn't up to standard, then it will be replaced. Just to finally clear up why my first installation was not done by Sky and therefore no offer of reduced installation charges or a reduction in the price of the box.

Thanks to those that understand my point, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Which, as it wasn't Sky who installed it, is worthless as far as Sky are concerned. If I called in a plumber to repair my boiler because it's not heating my house properly, and he told me that the boiler wasn't up to the job of feeding hot water and central heating to all my radiators, if I then show him an invoice from another plumber who did install the boiler, he's not then going to back down and agree that the boiler is up to the job.

He'll still insist I get a boiler that is up to the job, or tell me to go back to the first plumber. Just because plumber A says he's done a good job doens't mean that plumber B won't insist on changing what plumber A has put in - if plumber A wasn't up to the task in the first place. Now, I'm not saying that Sky would say that your existing kit isn't fine as it is. But what I am saying is that they won't just take your word and a piece of paper from some third party that it is up to the job.

And checking it out and possibly replacing it does take time. Which has to be paid for You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads B. The dish will be mounted in a place that gives it a good line of sight to the satellite, but will also be located as close as possible to your viewing room. It only takes about an hour to get everything set up in an average terraced house.

Non-standard installations might cost slightly more, but we've always found that installers will do their best to get you a result you're happy with. As usual, being pleasant to them and providing a cup of tea will boost their willingness to help you out. Once the hardware is in place, the Sky engineer -- or a nominated third-party installer -- will talk you through the service.

Ours explained how the Anytime catch-up TV service works, making us aware that we wouldn't see anything until around 48 hours had elapsed and the box had received some overnight content. The engineer also explained that the Sky box would take a while to update itself at first. Sky recently redesigned its electronic programme guide to take advantage of the HD box, and we're very impressed with it.

Finding shows is very easy, and setting up recordings is super-simple. You can even search listings to find what you're looking for -- something that saves much tedious scrolling around.

The box we tested wasn't immune from crashing, but it only did so a couple of times when we were actually using it. We'd also sometimes switch it on only to find that it would be on channel -- Sky's information channel -- which is a sure sign that it had reset itself. But, overall, we had very few problems.

Anything that does go wrong can be fixed with a reboot. We can't say that about Virgin's hardware -- problems often need to be fixed by an engineer. Remote recording One of the most impressive features of Sky's service is also one of the least well publicised. This means that, no matter where you are in the world, as long as you have Internet access, you can trigger your Sky box to start recording.

There's also provision for mobile-phone apps too, which makes scheduling a recording even easier when you're out and about. We tested this functionality, recording a movie on FX HD. The process went without a hitch.

It's suggested that you give the box at least 30 minutes' notice before you start recording -- otherwise it might not have been sent the appropriate signals from Sky HQ to set it going. More storage available Sky's standard HD box has GB of storage, which sounds like plenty, but half of that capacity is unavailable to end users.

This is because the Anytime service uses GB to store a selection of Sky's programming for you to watch on demand. It's actually a 1. Sky has neither the rights nor the technical ability to offer access to these yet, so Anytime is just a mix of content from Sky One, Sky Arts, and the movies and sports channels.

Considered in isolation, Anytime is actually very good.
