General acting classes take place over fall, winter, and spring trimesters and focus on different acting techniques, playwriting, improvisation, and scene study. Year-round advanced classes are taught by members of our education staff. Once your application is processed allow 3 — 5 business days you will be given a discount code to register.
Financial aid is need-based only and applicants must fill out the form and complete an essay to be considered. Payment plans are also available. Email education trinityrep. The spring session meets 8 times with a break during the week of April 18 — 22, for school vacation week. Classes meet throughout the school year. Participants will also receive a free ticket to a designated evening performance of each Trinity Rep mainstage show.
Financial aid is available and payments can be made in installments. Each class has 24 meetings total ranging from October to May Permission from the instructor required. Students must have a prior history with Trinity Rep classes or summer programs.
Trinity Rep has long committed to hosting a resident company of actors, strengthening the bond between performers and the community, which is why we established the Youth Company.
This company of high school-aged actors will partake in a mix of acting classes, job training, networking with professionals, and performance opportunities at the theater. Members of the Youth Company have already been selected and are currently in session. Details regarding the Youth Company will be announced at a later date. After all, many of us had held unpaid or low-paid internships ourselves at some point. We were perpetuating a system which exploited vulnerable young artists and administrators and told them that the only way to enter the professional theater world was through an unpaid internship.
Since increasing the stipend did not seem like an option year after year, we got creative and tried to find ways that we could make the internship more educational and less of a financial burden. We work in an art form that reflects back to audiences the essence of human nature through storytelling. It is time that that empathy be reflected amongst ourselves. Their labor has brought to the forefront battles that should have been fought years ago. The answer overwhelmingly was no. We did not have BIPOC senior leadership that could mentor these interns, or give them a model of what working in the theater could look like.
Absolutely, yes. Do I think they experienced harm during their time with us? During this time of reflection during COVID while we have not been producing in-person shows, we have been forced to slow down and really look at the choices we make as an industry. Our new apprenticeship program will align more closely with our long term goals of training the next generation of theater artists and administrators in a supported, structured, and safe place.
We have the opportunity to break the cycle of teaching bad habits in theater, including no longer encouraging our young learners to always say yes to everything, when they should be developing healthy boundaries.
We can teach and model a type of theater that respects learning and development in a way that allows people to succeed, instead of stressing about where their next meal might come from. We are excited to launch the next version of our programming that will provide comprehensive training for young adults in their early career.
